expectations
MOSAIC is currently a community of 13 core members. In order to function efficiently, we need to be organized.
rent, food and utilities
This year, members paid between $620 (for the doubles) and $750 (for the largest singles) for their rooms. The rates, based on the size and quality of the room, include all utilities, from water to wireless internet. Members also pay $105 a month for common food, including the four house dinners prepared each week, and $15 for a slush fund which pays for our social events, scholarships to the annual North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO) conference, and other extras we decide to spend on the house.
making things run smoothly
Each member completes about 4 hours of chore duty each week. In the past chores have routinely been reassigned each quarter based on the preferences of members. Chores range from typical house chores, such as cooking, dishwashing or food shopping, to chores that help to the co-op function as an organization, such as maintaining this website or promoting co-op events to the community. Occasionally there are extra errands to be run, such as organizing decorations for a party, and members volunteer their time to complete these tasks.
meetings
Each Sunday evening the members of MOSAIC come together to discuss the future of the co-op. Often simple day to day issues are discussed, but at times meetings are a time of heated (but healthy) debate on idealogical matters. Much more important than anything else, members must commit to come to these meetings.
